Which river flows through Budapest and reaches the Black Sea?

The story behind the answer

The Danube flows through Budapest and reaches the Black Sea.

At about 2,850 kilometres, the Danube is Europe’s second-longest river, after the Volga. It rises in Germany’s Black Forest and travels through or along the borders of ten countries before forming a delta on the Black Sea coast of Romania and Ukraine.

Budapest grew around the river, with the historic districts of Buda and Pest connected by major bridges. The Danube is also an important transport, water-supply, energy, and ecological corridor for central and southeastern Europe.

The river’s delta is one of Europe’s largest wetlands and supports hundreds of bird species. It should not be confused with the Rhine, which flows into the North Sea, or the Volga, which empties into the Caspian Sea.
