Which river flows over Victoria Falls?
Answer
Zambezi River
Answer
Zambezi River
The Zambezi River flows over Victoria Falls.
Victoria Falls lies on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, where the Zambezi plunges into a narrow series of gorges. The falls are about 1,708 metres wide and have a maximum height of approximately 108 metres, making them one of the world’s largest waterfall curtains.
The local Kololo name, Mosi-oa-Tunya, means “The Smoke That Thunders.” Scottish explorer David Livingstone saw the falls in 1855 and named them Victoria Falls after Queen Victoria, although local names remain widely used.
The Zambezi is Africa’s fourth-longest river and supports major ecosystems, communities, and hydroelectric projects. Victoria Falls is often confused with Niagara Falls, but the two are on different continents and are fed by different river systems.
