Which Rio de Janeiro science museum was designed by Calatrava?

The Rio de Janeiro science museum designed by Santiago Calatrava is the Museum of Tomorrow.

Known in Portuguese as Museu do Amanhã, it was built beside Pier Mauá in Rio’s port district. The museum opened on 17 December 2015, with President Dilma Rousseff attending, and became a centerpiece of Porto Maravilha, a major redevelopment of the waterfront ahead of the 2016 Summer Olympics.

The neofuturistic building is designed to look almost like a ship, bird or plant floating over the water. Its long roof includes movable solar-shading elements that adjust to the sun. Sea water is used in the building’s environmental systems to help regulate interior temperature and replenish the surrounding reflecting pools.

The museum’s exhibitions focus less on traditional collections than on questions about humanity’s future. Its main thematic areas include Cosmos, Earth, Anthropocene, Tomorrow and Us. It is sometimes confused with Rio’s Museum of Art, or Museu de Arte do Rio, another cultural institution in the same port-renewal zone but not Calatrava’s science museum.
