Catholicism is the religious denomination most historically associated with the traditional quinceañera ceremony.
In its religious form, the celebration may include a Catholic Mass of thanksgiving, often called a misa de acción de gracias. The service gives the family an opportunity to express gratitude and ask for guidance as the celebrant enters a new stage of life.
The association reflects the strong Catholic heritage of many Latin American countries where quinceañera customs developed and became widely practiced. It does not mean that every quinceañera is Catholic or includes a church service. Secular families and families from other faiths may adapt the tradition or celebrate it without religious elements.
A quinceañera is not a sacrament of the Catholic Church. It is a cultural celebration that may be incorporated into Catholic worship through a Mass, blessing, or parish ceremony, depending on local practice.
