Kanto was the region introduced in the original Pokémon Red and Green games.
The first-generation adventures take place across Kanto, where players begin in Pallet Town and travel through cities, routes, caves, and seas. The region includes eight Pokémon Gyms and the Pokémon League challenge.
Kanto’s name is shared with the real Kantō region of Japan, but the game setting is a fictionalized version with its own towns and geography. Professor Oak’s laboratory, Viridian City, Pewter City, and Cinnabar Island are all located in the game’s Kanto.
Later generations introduced new regions such as Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, and Galar. Johto followed Kanto in Pokémon Gold and Silver and could also be visited after the main story in those games.
