Kanto is the setting of the first-generation Pokémon games Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow.
The player travels through Kanto to collect Gym Badges, challenge the Elite Four, and complete the Pokédex. The region includes familiar locations such as Pallet Town, Viridian City, Pewter City, Celadon City, and the Pokémon League.
An interesting historical detail is that the name Kanto was not used in the first-generation games themselves. It was applied later, especially after Generation II introduced Johto and required a way to distinguish the original game world.
Kanto is sometimes confused with Johto because Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal allow players to return to Kanto after completing the Johto adventure. That later appearance does not change Kanto’s role as the original region associated with Generation I.
