Johto follows Kanto in the main Pokémon game series.
Johto was introduced in Pokémon Gold and Silver, released for the Game Boy in 1999 in Japan and internationally in 2000. It is the setting for the second generation of Pokémon games and adds 100 new Pokémon to the species introduced in the first generation.
The region is connected closely to Kanto. After completing the main adventure in Gold, Silver, or Crystal, players can travel to Kanto, revisit familiar locations, and challenge additional Gym Leaders. This unusual post-game structure helped make the second-generation games feel substantially larger than their predecessors.
Johto is sometimes confused with Kanto because the two regions appear in the same games. Kanto is the first-generation region, while Johto is the new region introduced by the second generation. Important Johto locations include New Bark Town, Goldenrod City, Ecruteak City, and the Lake of Rage.
