Ne-Yo released the 2007 album “Because of You.” It was his second studio album, following his 2006 debut, “In My Own Words,” and was released in the United States on May 1, 2007, through Def Jam Recordings and Compound Entertainment.
The album followed Ne-Yo’s breakthrough as both a singer and songwriter. Before his recording career took off, he co-wrote Mario’s 2004 hit “Let Me Love You,” which helped lead to his signing with Def Jam. For “Because of You,” he worked with producers including Stargate, Ron “Neff-U” Feemster, Shea Taylor, Eric Hudson, and the Heavyweights.
The title track served as the lead single and became a major hit, reaching No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, later earning platinum certification. A common mix-up is confusing the album with its identically titled single, which was also released in 2007.
