The R&B singer who recorded the 2004 hit “Burn” from the album Confessions is Usher. The song was created for Usher’s fourth studio album and became one of his signature recordings.
“Burn” was written by Usher with Jermaine Dupri and Bryan-Michael Cox, who also produced it. The slow R&B ballad centers on the painful decision to end a relationship, using the image of letting a dying romance burn out. It was initially considered as a possible lead single, but “Yeah!” was released first after its strong early response.
Released as the second single from Confessions on March 21, 2004, “Burn” topped the Billboard Hot 100 for eight non-consecutive weeks. It followed “Yeah!” at number one, helping Usher dominate the chart during a defining period of his career. The song was nominated for two Grammy Awards at the 47th ceremony. Trey Songz, Chris Brown, and Ne-Yo are plausible distractors because they are also major male R&B singers, but none recorded this Confessions hit.
