Which R&B group released the 1973 concept album 3 + 3?

The story behind the answer

The Isley Brothers released the 1973 concept album 3 + 3.

Released on August 7, 1973, 3 + 3 marked a major expansion of the group’s classic lineup. Founding brothers Ronald, Rudolph, and O’Kelly Isley were joined officially by younger brothers Ernie and Marvin Isley and brother-in-law Chris Jasper. The title reflects the six-member formation: three original Isleys plus three newer members.

The album blended psychedelic soul, funk, progressive soul, and rock. Its standout single, “That Lady,” reworked an earlier Isley Brothers song into a sleek, guitar-driven hit and reached No. 6 on the U.S. pop chart. “What It Comes Down To” and a cover of Seals & Crofts’ “Summer Breeze” also performed strongly.

A common mix-up is confusing 3 + 3 with Brother, Brother, Brother, the 1972 album on which Ernie, Marvin, and Chris Jasper had already played. 3 + 3 was the first to credit them officially as full members, and it became the Isleys’ first platinum album.
