Killer Mike's 2012 album R.A.P. Music was produced by El-P and is widely regarded as a career comeback.
Released on May 15, 2012, through Williams Street Records, R.A.P. Music was Killer Mike's fifth studio album. It was recorded in 2011, with every song produced by Jaime “El-P” Meline, whose dense electronic production sharply complemented Mike's forceful Southern rap style.
The album marked the pair's first collaboration. Its critical success helped reposition Killer Mike as a major, politically engaged voice and directly led to the formation of Run the Jewels with El-P. The duo released its self-titled debut in 2013 and became one of hip-hop's most acclaimed partnerships.
“R.A.P.” is a backronym for “Rebellious African People,” reflecting the album's emphasis on identity, history, policing and political power. “Reagan” is especially noted for its critique of the war on drugs and U.S. economic policy. The album received widespread acclaim, including a Metacritic score of 85. Bun B appears as a guest, which may cause confusion, but he is not the album's main artist.
