Which railway station is the western terminus of China’s Guangzhou–Shenzhen–Hong Kong Express Rail Link?

The story behind the answer

Hong Kong West Kowloon is the western terminus of the Guangzhou–Shenzhen–Hong Kong Express Rail Link.

The Hong Kong section opened on 23 September 2018, connecting Hong Kong’s dedicated terminus with China’s mainland high-speed rail network. The station is located in West Kowloon and was designed as an underground terminal integrated into the city’s waterfront district.

The broader link connects Hong Kong with Shenzhen and Guangzhou, with services also reaching other mainland Chinese cities. Passengers use co-located immigration facilities at the terminus for cross-border travel.

Guangzhou South and Shenzhen North are important stations on the mainland section, but neither is the Hong Kong endpoint. The full name “Hong Kong West Kowloon” is useful because Hong Kong has several major railway stations with different local and cross-border roles.
