Bloomsbury released J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books in the United Kingdom.
Bloomsbury published Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone on 26 June 1997. The company acquired the manuscript after Rowling’s agent submitted it, and the book became the foundation of one of the most commercially successful publishing series in history.
The British publisher is often confused with Scholastic because Scholastic released the American editions. Bloomsbury retained the original British title, while Scholastic changed the first book’s title to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Different cover designs and some vocabulary changes also distinguish the editions.
The partnership continued through all seven main novels. Bloomsbury also published related Rowling works connected with the wizarding world, including editions of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Quidditch Through the Ages.
