Which prophet's staff turned into a serpent?
Answer
Musa
Answer
Musa
The prophet whose staff turned into a serpent was Musa, known in the Bible as Moses.
In Islamic tradition, God gave Musa the staff as a sign of his prophethood. When Musa was commanded to throw it down, the ordinary staff became a moving serpent. This miracle appeared during his confrontation with Pharaoh, whose magicians attempted to imitate it with their own tricks. Musa’s sign overcame their display, and the magicians recognized that it was not ordinary sorcery; they then believed in the God of Musa despite Pharaoh’s threats.
The Qur’an presents this transformation alongside another sign: Musa’s hand became brilliantly radiant when he drew it out. His staff also appears in other miracles, including striking the sea during the Exodus and striking a rock to bring forth water in the wilderness.
Readers sometimes confuse Musa’s staff with Aaron’s rod in biblical retellings, where Aaron’s rod is associated with the court confrontation. In the Islamic question’s wording, however, the prophet is clearly Musa. Sulayman, Dawud, and Harun are important prophets, but this staff miracle identifies Musa.
