Which prophet's bones revived a dead man?
Answer
Elisha
Answer
Elisha
The prophet whose bones revived a dead man was Elisha.
The episode appears in 2 Kings 13:20–21. After Elisha had died and been buried, Israelites were hurriedly burying another man when they saw a band of raiders. They placed the body in Elisha’s tomb, and when it touched Elisha’s bones, the man revived and stood up. The story is presented as a miraculous event associated with the deceased prophet.
This is not the same as Elisha’s better-known resurrection miracle in 2 Kings 4, when he restored the life of the Shunammite woman’s son during his ministry. The bones episode occurs after Elisha’s death, making it unusual among biblical miracle accounts.
Elisha is also easily confused with Elijah, his prophetic predecessor and mentor. Elijah raised the widow of Zarephath’s son, while Elisha performed several other miracles, including healing Naaman and multiplying a poor widow’s oil. The account does not suggest that bones generally possess independent power; within the narrative, the event is understood as a sign connected with God’s power working through the prophet.
