Which prophet killed the giant Goliath?

Dawud is the prophet who killed the giant Goliath. In the Quran, Goliath is called Jalut, while Dawud is the future prophet-king who defeats him during a battle between the Israelites and their enemy.

The story appears in Quran 2:249–251. The Israelites are led by Talut, commonly identified with Saul, and face Jalut's forces. Although the opposing army is formidable, God grants victory to the believers. Dawud kills Jalut, after which God gives him kingship and wisdom. The Quran presents the victory as ultimately granted by God's permission rather than as merely a feat of physical strength.

Dawud is known in Islam for more than this battle. He is regarded as a prophet and messenger, received the Zabur, and was given judgment and knowledge. Islamic tradition also remembers his beautiful recitation and devotion. A common mix-up is assigning Goliath's defeat to Sulayman (Solomon), but Sulayman was Dawud's son and successor; the Quran specifically attributes the killing of Jalut to Dawud.
