Which prophet built a large ark to save his family from a flood? The answer is Nuh, known in English as Noah.
In Islam, Nuh was a prophet who warned his people to abandon idolatry and worship God alone. They rejected and mocked him, so God instructed him to build an ark. When the flood came, Nuh, the believers who followed him, and pairs of creatures were saved by boarding the vessel.
The Quran’s account differs in emphasis from the biblical version. It highlights Nuh’s long preaching, the refusal of most of his people to believe, and the tragic fate of one of his sons, who rejected his father’s warning and drowned. After the waters receded, the ark came to rest on Mount Judi.
Another distinctive detail is Nuh’s age: Quran 29:14 says he remained among his people for 950 years. The story is therefore not only a flood narrative but also a lesson about perseverance, accountability, and the consequences of rejecting prophetic guidance. Nuh is regarded as one of Islam’s major messengers.
