Which producer produced Michael Jackson's 1982 album Thriller?
Answer
Quincy Jones
Answer
Quincy Jones
Quincy Jones produced Michael Jackson’s 1982 album Thriller.
Released by Epic Records on November 29, 1982, Thriller reunited Jackson with Jones, who had produced Jackson’s previous album, Off the Wall. Their collaboration combined pop, funk, R&B, rock, post-disco, and sophisticated studio arranging into a record designed to reach an exceptionally broad audience.
Recording took place at Westlake Recording Studios in Los Angeles between April and November 1982, with a reported budget of $750,000. Jones produced all nine tracks, while Jackson received co-producer credit on several songs and contributed vocals, songwriting, arrangements, and instrumental parts. That distinction can cause confusion: Jackson was deeply involved in the production, but Jones is the album’s principal credited producer.
Thriller generated seven Top 10 singles, including “Billie Jean,” “Beat It,” and “Thriller,” and won a then-record eight Grammy Awards. Its videos and sales transformed the music industry, making the album a landmark in pop and R&B history.
