Which prize did Marie Curie receive in 1907?

The story behind the answer

Marie Curie received the Actonian Prize in 1907.

The Royal Institution awarded Curie the Actonian Prize for her essay and research on radioactive substances. The prize recognized the importance of her scientific work only a few years after she and Pierre Curie shared the 1903 Nobel Prize in Physics with Henri Becquerel.

Curie’s research focused on radioactivity, a term she helped establish and develop scientifically. Her investigations of pitchblende led to the identification of polonium, named after her native Poland, and radium. She also developed methods for measuring and isolating radioactive materials.

The Actonian Prize is easy to confuse with Curie’s better-known Nobel awards. She received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1903 and the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1911. The Kavli Prize, Enrico Fermi Award, and Wolf Prize were created much later and were not the award she received in 1907.
