Which prior series game does Rhythm Heaven Groove follow?

The story behind the answer

Rhythm Heaven Groove follows Rhythm Heaven Megamix in the Rhythm Heaven game series.

Megamix launched for Nintendo 3DS in Japan in 2015 and internationally during 2016. It is the fourth main entry in the series, following Rhythm Tengoku, Rhythm Heaven, and Rhythm Heaven Fever. Groove is positioned as the next successor, moving the series to Nintendo Switch.

The wording can cause confusion because Megamix is not simply a conventional sequel. It is built partly as a compilation, bringing back rhythm games from the earlier three titles while adding new stages, remixes, and a story about helping Tibby return to Heaven World. Even so, its place in the release sequence is clear: it is the immediately preceding series game named before Groove.

Another common mix-up is treating the regional titles as separate games. Rhythm Tengoku, Rhythm Heaven, and Rhythm Paradise are alternate names used in different markets, while Megamix is the relevant prior entry here. Groove therefore follows Megamix, not the original Rhythm Heaven or Fever.
