George Washington is shown on the obverse of the 2026 Semiquincentennial quarter about the Revolutionary War.
Washington served as commander in chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. The 2026 quarter design uses his image on the obverse and depicts a Revolutionary War soldier overlooking Valley Forge on the reverse, linking the leader with the army he commanded.
The design is part of a five-quarter series created for the United States Semiquincentennial. Other quarters feature the Mayflower Compact, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Gettysburg Address, so each coin highlights a different chapter in American history.
Washington is easily confused with other presidents represented elsewhere in the series. Thomas Jefferson appears on the Declaration of Independence quarter, James Madison on the Constitution quarter and Abraham Lincoln on the Gettysburg Address quarter.
