Calvin Coolidge appears with George Washington on the obverse of the 1926 U.S. Sesquicentennial half dollar.
The coin was issued for the 150th anniversary of American independence, making it a direct predecessor to the 2026 America250 commemorations. Its obverse shows jugate busts—side-by-side portraits—of Washington and Coolidge, who was president in 1926.
The coin was struck at the Philadelphia Mint and had a face value of 50 cents. Its reverse shows the Liberty Bell. The issue was part of the United States Sesquicentennial celebration, which also included a commemorative quarter eagle.
Coolidge’s appearance is historically notable because he was a sitting president when the coin was minted. He remains the only U.S. president depicted on a coin during his lifetime in the commonly cited history of U.S. coinage.
