Which Porsche model was the first to feature a turbocharged engine?

The Porsche 911 Turbo (930) was the first Porsche production model to feature a turbocharged engine. Internally designated Type 930, it brought turbocharging from Porsche’s racing program to a road-going sports car.

Porsche unveiled a turbocharged 911 prototype at the 1973 Frankfurt Motor Show and presented the series-production version at the Paris Motor Show in October 1974. Its 3.0-liter turbocharged flat-six produced about 260 PS, giving the car extraordinary performance for its era. Wide rear bodywork and the large “whale-tail” spoiler became visual signatures.

The distinction between racing and production cars matters. Porsche had already used turbocharging in competition, including the 917/10 and 911 Carrera RSR Turbo. Those were not regular production road models, however. The 930 is therefore the canonical answer when the question asks for the first Porsche production model with a turbocharged engine. The 959 and 944 Turbo arrived later.
