On 4 September 2013, Porsche factory driver Marc Lieb recorded a 6:57 lap in a 918 Spyder fitted with the optional Weissach Package and road-legal Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres. The run covered the 20.6-kilometre Nordschleife configuration and beat the previous production-car benchmark by roughly 14 seconds.
The 918 was a limited-production plug-in hybrid, not merely a conventional supercar. Its naturally aspirated 4.6-litre V8 worked with two electric motors to produce 887 PS of combined system power and all-wheel drive. Electric torque helped the car accelerate out of corners, while the Weissach Package reduced weight and added track-oriented equipment.
