Which pop singer is the subject of the 2026 biographical film Michael?

The 2026 biographical film Michael is about pop singer Michael Jackson.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, Michael follows Jackson’s rise from a child performer with the Jackson 5 to one of the most influential entertainers in popular music. The film covers his early Motown years, his development as a solo artist and major milestones associated with Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad.

Jackson became known for combining precise dance, innovative music videos and a highly distinctive stage persona. His recordings helped reshape the commercial possibilities of pop music, while performances such as the moonwalk became part of global popular culture. In the film, Jackson is played by his nephew Jaafar Jackson, with Juliano Krue Valdi portraying him as a child.

The title can cause confusion because Michael is a common first name and because other music biopics have focused on figures such as Freddie Mercury or Elvis Presley. This film is specifically centered on Michael Jackson, the American singer often called the King of Pop. It is not a fictional story or a biography of musician Michael Hutchence or another performer named Michael.
