The Polabian god who served as a patron of war and victory was Jarovit.
Jarovit, also spelled Yarovit, Iarovit, or Yerovit, was worshipped by Polabian Slavs in places including Wolgast and Havelberg. Medieval descriptions identify him as a war deity, and a Christian missionary compared him with the Roman god Mars. His principal sanctuary at Wolgast contained a golden shield associated with the god.
Jarovit’s cult may have had a wider meaning than warfare alone. Some scholars connect him with solar, youthful, agricultural, and fertility themes, while others interpret him as a regional or local manifestation related to Perun. A spring sowing festival associated with him was reportedly observed on April 15.
The sword detail is a common modern embellishment, but the surviving evidence is less definite.
