Which Pokémon type combination does Charizard have in the original Pokémon games?

The story behind the answer

Charizard has the Fire/Flying type combination in the original Pokémon games.

Charizard is the final evolutionary stage of the Charmander line. Charmander evolves into Charmeleon at level 16, and Charmeleon evolves into Charizard at level 36. In the first-generation games, Charizard is classified as both Fire-type and Flying-type.

Many fans assume Charizard is a Dragon-type because of its appearance, wings, and dragon-like design. However, it does not have the Dragon typing in the original games. Its Fire/Flying combination affects its battle strengths and weaknesses, including a major weakness to Rock-type attacks.

Charizard’s typing changed in some later forms and games. Mega Charizard X became Fire/Dragon, while Mega Charizard Y remained Fire/Flying. Those later variations are why answers based on newer games can differ, but the original Charizard’s standard combination is Fire/Flying.
