The Pokémon region modeled on Japan’s Kantō region is Kanto.
Kanto is the setting for Pokémon Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow, as well as the first season of the anime. It contains familiar locations such as Pallet Town, Viridian City, Pewter City, and Saffron City.
The region’s design draws on the real Kantō region of Japan, which includes Tokyo and surrounding prefectures. The Pokémon version uses fictional geography while borrowing broad cultural and geographic inspiration from its real-world counterpart.
Kanto is also home to the original eight Gym Leaders and the Indigo Plateau, where the Pokémon League is held. Fans sometimes confuse Kanto with Johto because the two regions appear together in the second generation’s games, but Johto is based primarily on Japan’s Kansai region.
