Which Pokémon has the greatest number of known evolutions?

The story behind the answer

Eevee has the greatest number of known evolutions among Pokémon, with eight established evolutionary forms. This unusual branching structure is why Eevee is often called the Evolution Pokémon.

The eight forms are Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon, Glaceon and Sylveon. They represent Water, Electric, Fire, Psychic, Dark, Grass, Ice and Fairy types respectively. Different games use different methods to trigger these evolutions.

The original Pokémon games introduced three Eevee evolutions: Vaporeon, Jolteon and Flareon. Gold and Silver added Espeon and Umbreon, while later generations introduced Leafeon, Glaceon and Sylveon. The additions made Eevee’s evolutionary family grow across multiple generations.

Eevee is sometimes confused with Pokémon that have several forms but not several evolutions. For example, Castform and Rotom can change forms, while Tyrogue has three possible evolutionary outcomes. Eevee’s eight branches are separate evolved species, not temporary transformations.
