Which Pokémon games were the first to have a simultaneous worldwide release?

The story behind the answer

Pokémon X and Y were the first Pokémon games to have a simultaneous worldwide release.

Released in October 2013 for Nintendo 3DS, X and Y launched internationally on the same date rather than arriving first in Japan and later in other regions. This represented a major change for the main series, whose earlier games had traditionally received staggered regional releases.

The games are the sixth-generation main-series entries and take place in the Kalos region, which is inspired by France. They introduced 72 new Pokémon species, the Fairy type, character customization, and Mega Evolution, along with fully rendered polygonal 3D graphics.

The games’ global launch is sometimes confused with a worldwide release in the same year. Pokémon Black and White, for example, came out in Japan in 2010 and reached other regions in 2011. X and Y are notable specifically because the major regions received them simultaneously.
