Which Pokémon game was the first main-series title released for the Game Boy Advance?

The story behind the answer

Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire were the first main-series Pokémon games released for the Game Boy Advance.

The pair launched in Japan in 2002 and began Pokémon’s third generation. They introduced the Hoenn region and 135 new Pokémon, raising the total from 251 to 386. The games also added abilities, natures, double battles, Pokémon Contests, and customizable Secret Bases.

Ruby and Sapphire were designed for new Game Boy Advance hardware rather than the original Game Boy or Game Boy Color. Their more detailed graphics and expanded mechanics marked a substantial technical step forward for the main series.

FireRed and LeafGreen were later Game Boy Advance remakes of the first-generation adventures, while Emerald was an enhanced version of Ruby and Sapphire. Gold and Silver preceded all three on the Game Boy Color, so none of those titles is the answer to the question about the first main-series GBA release.
