Which Pokémon game was released in Japan on September 12, 1998?
Answer
Pokémon Yellow
Answer
Pokémon Yellow
Pokémon Yellow was released in Japan on September 12, 1998.
Its full Japanese title was Pocket Monsters Pikachu, and it was an enhanced version of the first-generation games. The game drew more directly from the television anime than Red, Green, and Blue did: Pikachu accompanied the player outside its Poké Ball, and the opening sequence and story presentation emphasized Pikachu’s role.
Pokémon Yellow still used the first-generation Kanto setting and the original collection of species, but it adjusted several encounters and character appearances. It was released for the original Game Boy while also supporting the Game Boy Color’s palette. International editions followed in 1999. The release date is easy to confuse with the Japanese launch of the original Red and Green games on February 27, 1996, or with the North American Red and Blue launch on September 28, 1998. Yellow was a later special edition designed to connect the games more visibly with the anime.
