Which Pokémon character is the franchise’s primary mascot?

The story behind the answer

Pikachu is the primary mascot of the Pokémon franchise.

Pikachu is an Electric-type Pokémon first introduced in the original generation. In the games, it evolves from Pichu and can evolve into Raichu when exposed to a Thunder Stone. Its distinctive yellow design, pointed ears, red cheek markings, and lightning-bolt tail made it especially recognizable across languages and markets.

The anime strengthened Pikachu’s global identity by making it Ash Ketchum’s partner. Unlike most Pokémon in the television series, Ash’s Pikachu normally remains outside its Poké Ball and communicates through repeated versions of its name. The character became central to promotional art, merchandise, games, films, and anniversary celebrations.

Pikachu is also the mascot of Pokémon Yellow and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!. Although characters such as Charizard and Eevee are extremely popular, neither occupies the franchise-wide mascot role associated with Pikachu.
