Which Pokémon appears on the cover of Pokémon Yellow?

Pikachu appears on the cover of Pokémon Yellow.

Released in Japan in 1998, Pokémon Yellow is an enhanced version of the first-generation games. It was inspired by the Pokémon anime and gives the player Pikachu as a companion rather than allowing a choice among Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle at the beginning.

Pikachu follows the player outside its Poké Ball and refuses to evolve with a Thunder Stone. The game also introduces Jessie and James of Team Rocket, who were adapted from the television series.

Pikachu is sometimes confused with Raichu in discussions of the game’s evolution storyline. Raichu is Pikachu’s evolved form, but Pikachu is the featured character on Pokémon Yellow’s cover and the player’s initial partner.
