Which poet is known for the collection "The Prophet"?

Kahlil Gibran is the Lebanese-American poet and writer best known for The Prophet.

First published in 1923 by Alfred A. Knopf, The Prophet is a series of 26 prose-poetry fables presented as teachings by Almustafa, a wise man preparing to leave the fictional city of Orphalese. Its subjects include love, marriage, work, freedom, religion, sorrow, and death, giving the book a broad philosophical appeal.

Gibran wrote the book in English, even though he was born in Bsharri, in present-day Lebanon, and became an important figure in the Mahjar literary movement of Arab writers living in the Americas. The Prophet was not an instant bestseller, but its readership expanded steadily and it became Gibran’s best-known work.

A frequent mix-up is attributing the book to Rumi or Rabindranath Tagore because all three are associated with spiritual or philosophical poetry. The Prophet, however, is distinctly Gibran’s work and was followed by the posthumously published The Garden of the Prophet in 1933.
