Which player won the longest match in Wimbledon history?

John Isner won the longest match in Wimbledon history, defeating Nicolas Mahut in an extraordinary first-round contest at the 2010 Championships.

The match lasted 11 hours and 5 minutes and was played across three days, from June 22 to June 24. Isner eventually prevailed 6–4, 3–6, 6–7, 7–6, 70–68, with the fifth set alone containing 138 games.

The match became possible because Wimbledon’s traditional rules required a deciding set to be won by two games. With neither player able to break serve, the score continued far beyond normal expectations before Isner finally secured victory.

Both men set serving records. Isner struck 113 aces and Mahut hit 103. Isner’s 92 games won also set a Wimbledon record. The contest is sometimes confused with Isner’s 2018 semifinal against Kevin Anderson, which was another exceptionally long Wimbledon match but not the record-holder.
