Which player won the 2017 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale?
Answer
Jordan Spieth
Answer
Jordan Spieth
Jordan Spieth won the 2017 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. He finished at 12 under par, three strokes ahead of Matt Kuchar.
The championship was played from 20 to 23 July 2017 and was the 146th Open Championship. Spieth led after the opening round and remained in contention throughout, but the decisive moment came on the 13th hole of the final round. After driving into difficult ground near the practice area, he took a penalty drop, played a remarkable recovery shot and eventually made bogey rather than losing control of the tournament.
Spieth then produced a strong finish, including birdies on the 14th, 15th and 16th holes, to pull clear of Kuchar. The victory gave him his third major title, completing the career Grand Slam of winning all four majors before his 24th birthday.
The result is sometimes confused with the 2017 U.S. Open, won by Brooks Koepka. At Royal Birkdale, Spieth lifted the Claret Jug.
