Which player was the Los Angeles Clippers' 1st pick in the 2010 NBA Draft?

The story behind the answer

The Los Angeles Clippers’ first pick in the 2010 NBA Draft was Al-Farouq Aminu.

The Clippers selected Aminu eighth overall on June 24, 2010. The 6-foot-9 forward had played two seasons at Wake Forest, where he became known for his athleticism, rebounding, and defensive potential. He was the first player chosen by Los Angeles that year.

The Clippers also acquired Eric Bledsoe’s draft rights after the Oklahoma City Thunder selected him 18th overall. That makes Bledsoe another Clippers-associated pick from the first round, but he was not the team’s first selection. Aminu was drafted directly at No. 8, while Bledsoe arrived through a trade.

Aminu later became part of the Clippers’ 2011 trade for Chris Paul. Los Angeles sent Aminu, Eric Gordon, Chris Kaman, and a future first-round pick to New Orleans. The deal helped launch the era commonly known as “Lob City.”
