Mike Trout was named MVP of the 2014 Major League Baseball All-Star Game. The American League defeated the National League 5–3 on July 15, 2014, at Target Field in Minneapolis, and Trout made the decisive impact with a triple, a double, and two runs scored.
The honor was officially called the Ted Williams Most Valuable Player Award. Trout became the first player to win the All-Star Game MVP after collecting multiple extra-base hits in the same game since Fred Lynn in 1976, and he was only 22 years old at the time. His performance helped reinforce his reputation as one of baseball’s most complete young stars.
A common mix-up is confusing this award with the regular-season American League MVP. Trout won the All-Star Game award in 2014, then also won the AL MVP for the 2014 season, receiving all 30 first-place votes. He later became the first player to win All-Star Game MVP in consecutive years, doing so again in 2015.
