Max McGee scored the first touchdown in Super Bowl history.

McGee's historic touchdown came during Super Bowl I on January 15, 1967, when the Green Bay Packers played the Kansas City Chiefs at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. McGee entered the game after Packers starting receiver Boyd Dowler suffered a shoulder injury. On one of his first opportunities, McGee caught a 37-yard pass from quarterback Bart Starr and ran into the end zone.

The play was especially unexpected because McGee was a reserve and had caught only four passes during the 1966 regular season. He had also not brought his helmet onto the field and reportedly borrowed one from a teammate before entering the game.

McGee finished the Packers' 35–10 victory with seven receptions for 138 yards and two touchdowns. His second touchdown came in the third quarter. Bart Starr was named the game's Most Valuable Player, but McGee's performance made him the first player to score in what became the NFL's defining championship event.
