Joško Gvardiol scored Manchester City’s late winner against Bournemouth in the 2026–27 opening round.
Manchester City beat Bournemouth 2–1 on Sunday 23 August 2026. Bournemouth led for much of the match, but Manchester City turned the game around late in the second half.
Marcus Tavernier scored Bournemouth’s goal in the 84th minute. Manchester City then equalised before Joško Gvardiol completed the comeback with a goal in the second minute of added time.
The late goal gave City three points in their first match under new manager Enzo Maresca. It was also an early example of the season’s dramatic finishes, as the eventual winners scored both of their goals late.
