Which platform received the original Pokémon Gold and Silver games?

The story behind the answer

The original Pokémon Gold and Silver games were released for the Game Boy Color.

Game Freak developed the second-generation role-playing games for Nintendo, and they first launched in Japan in 1999. Gold and Silver used the Game Boy Color's display capabilities while remaining compatible with the broader Game Boy family of systems.

The games expanded the series with 100 new Pokémon, a day-and-night clock, breeding, held items, Pokémon types, and a new region called Johto. Their compatibility with earlier games also allowed players to trade between generations, although completing the full collection required multiple versions and systems.

The Game Boy Advance was the platform for the next main generation, Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. The Nintendo DS later received the fourth-generation games and remakes of Gold and Silver, Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. Those later releases are easy to confuse with the original Game Boy Color titles.
