Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, the first games of Pokémon’s fourth generation, were released for the Nintendo DS.
The games launched in Japan on September 28, 2006, introducing the Sinnoh region and 107 new Pokémon. They were designed around the DS’s distinctive features, including its two screens, touchscreen, wireless connectivity, and compatibility with earlier Game Boy Advance Pokémon games.
Diamond and Pearl also expanded online play through the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Players could trade and battle remotely, a major change from the predominantly local communication of earlier generations.
The later remakes Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl were released for Nintendo Switch in 2021. That platform belongs to the remakes, not the original fourth-generation games.
