Which planned Allied invasion of Kyushu was scheduled for November 1945?

The story behind the answer

Operation Olympic was the planned Allied invasion of Kyushu scheduled for November 1945.

Olympic formed the first stage of Operation Downfall, the proposed invasion of Japan. Allied planners intended to land on Kyushu, the southernmost of Japan’s four main islands, on November 1, 1945. The operation was expected to seize airfields and establish a base for the later invasion of Honshu.

The second stage, Operation Coronet, was planned for the Kanto Plain near Tokyo in March 1946. Both operations were cancelled after Japan accepted the Allied surrender terms in August 1945 and signed the Instrument of Surrender in September.

Operation Olympic is sometimes confused with Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Normandy in June 1944. It is also distinct from Operation Coronet, which was the proposed second phase of the Japan invasion plan. The names show how seriously Allied leaders prepared for a possible invasion before Japan surrendered.
