Which planet does Pandora, the moon associated with a narrow ring, orbit?

The story behind the answer

Pandora is a moon of Saturn. It orbits the ringed planet and acts as an outer shepherd of Saturn’s F ring, alongside the inner shepherd moon Prometheus.

The satellite was discovered in images taken by Voyager 1 in 1980. Its name comes from Pandora in Greek mythology and was chosen in connection with Prometheus, another moon of Saturn named after the Titan who stole fire for humanity.

Saturn has many moons and an extensive ring system, so Pandora is sometimes confused with moons of other giant planets. It is not one of Jupiter’s Galilean moons, nor is it associated with Uranus’s or Neptune’s principal satellites.

Pandora is small and irregular in shape. Its importance comes less from its size than from its gravitational effect on the nearby F ring.
