Cars 2 is the Pixar Cars movie set partly during the World Grand Prix.
The film follows Lightning McQueen as he enters an international racing competition organized by Sir Miles Axlerod. The races take place in locations including Tokyo, Porto Corsa, and London, giving the sequel a much broader setting than the original film.
Mater accompanies Lightning on the trip and becomes involved in an espionage storyline after being mistaken for a secret agent. That plot brings him into conflict with Professor Zündapp and a group planning attacks connected to the World Grand Prix.
Cars, released in 2006, centers on Radiator Springs and the Piston Cup. Cars 3 returns to a more personal racing story about Lightning’s changing career and his rivalry with Jackson Storm.
