Which pitcher threw an MLB-record seven career no-hitters?
Answer
Nolan Ryan
Answer
Nolan Ryan
Nolan Ryan threw an MLB-record seven career no-hitters. His seven no-hit games remain the most by any major-league pitcher, three more than the next-highest individual total.
Ryan’s no-hitters spanned three decades and three franchises. He threw four for the California Angels, one for the Houston Astros and two for the Texas Rangers. His first came against the Kansas City Royals on May 15, 1973; his seventh came against the Toronto Blue Jays on May 1, 1991, when Ryan was 44 years old.
A no-hitter means a team allows no hits over at least nine completed innings, but it does not necessarily mean no baserunners. Walks, errors and hit batters can still occur. Ryan’s games included 94 strikeouts and 26 walks combined. Sandy Koufax finished with four no-hitters, while Bob Feller and Justin Verlander each threw three, so none matched Ryan’s career record.
