Which pianist arranged music for 'I Love Lucy'?
Answer
Marco Rizo
Answer
Marco Rizo
Marco Rizo arranged music for I Love Lucy. The Cuban-American pianist worked closely with his childhood friend Desi Arnaz, bringing classical training and Afro-Cuban musical experience to the series’ orchestra and musical sequences.
Rizo joined the Desi Arnaz Orchestra after World War II and returned to Arnaz’s side when I Love Lucy entered production. From 1951 through 1957, he served as the show’s pianist and orchestrator, sometimes appearing on camera in nightclub scenes. His playing helped give Ricky Ricardo’s performances their convincing bandleader feel.
A frequent misunderstanding concerns the famous theme. Rizo did not write it alone: the music is credited to Eliot Daniel, with contributions associated with Desi Arnaz and Rizo, while Harold Adamson supplied lyrics for the later vocal version. Wilbur Hatch also worked on I Love Lucy music and conducting, but Rizo is the pianist most specifically identified with arranging and orchestrating the show’s musical material.
