Which physicist kept Faraday's portrait on his study wall with Newton and Maxwell?
Answer
Albert Einstein
Answer
Albert Einstein
Albert Einstein kept Faraday’s portrait on his study wall alongside portraits of Isaac Newton and James Clerk Maxwell.
The trio represented a powerful scientific lineage. Newton transformed mechanics and gravitation, Faraday established experimental foundations for electromagnetism, and Maxwell later expressed Faraday’s field ideas in mathematical form. Einstein deeply valued this tradition, especially the shift from forces acting at a distance to the concept of physical fields.
Faraday’s own path was unusual. He had little formal education and was not a mathematical theorist, yet his experiments on electromagnetic induction, electrolysis and magnetic effects on light reshaped physics. Maxwell’s equations subsequently gave mathematical structure to many of Faraday’s insights.
The portraits are sometimes described as photographs, pictures or portraits, but the central identification is the same: Einstein honoured Faraday with Newton and Maxwell. The other listed physicists were not the members of this famous trio.
