Which photographer created the famous portrait series of Georgia O'Keeffe and later became her husband?

The story behind the answer

Alfred Stieglitz created the famous portrait series of Georgia O'Keeffe and later became her husband.

Alfred Stieglitz, a major American photographer and gallery owner, began photographing O'Keeffe in 1917. Over roughly two decades he made hundreds of photographs of her, including portraits and studies of her hands, body, and face. The series became one of the best-known photographic records of an artist's public and private image.

Stieglitz also promoted O'Keeffe's work through his galleries, including the gallery known as 291 and later An American Place. Their professional relationship became personal, and they married in 1924. They remained married until Stieglitz's death in 1946.

Stieglitz is sometimes confused with Paul Strand or Edward Steichen, other important figures in American photography. Those photographers were connected to the same artistic networks, but Stieglitz was the person who made the extensive portrait series and married O'Keeffe.
